We also have a conscience about the abuse the earth has taken and recognize fashion's role in that. Is it indulgent to be so concerned about fashion? Is it frivolous to want to look good? The fashion and textile industry take a great toll on the environment with air pollution, pesticide misuse, transport emissions, and tons of landfill waste from clothes that have seen better days. Then there is the social injustice of overcrowded sweatshops, child labor, and criminally low wages for those making the clothes. What is a girl to do? Here at EarthGirls we have a deep understanding of the condition we may be leaving this land to our children if we don't act. Since we don't know how to assemble a wind turbine or convert algae into energy we decided the roll of fashion in human nature could not be ignored and we opened a boutique like no other before. We wanted high style but without the guilt. It called for fashion with a conscience. |
